The LCC volleyball team served up a win during its match against Ancilla College on Thursday, Sept. 9 in the Gannon Gym at LCC.

The Stars won in four games. The scores were 28-26 in the first set, 25-22 in the second set, 23-25 in the third set, and 25-15 in the fourth set.

“We definitely battled back and forth,” LCC Head Coach Emily Quintero said. “We had some struggles in areas of serve-receive and then they were able to come back with a vengeance and pull ahead. It was their stamina that definitely helped … but also them being relentless.”

This win brought the Stars’ overall record to 5-6 and to 2-2 in the MCCAA’s Western Conference.

“We still got to work on our leadership and actually having a bigger presence on the court,” Quintero said. “That’s something that we’re going to continue to work on, that (comes) with experience.”

The Stars had 45 kills in the match, with freshman Olivia Sabec delivering 15 of those.

There were 90 digs for LCC, with sophomore Katelyn Whiteman leading the way with 21.

Freshman Anna Porritt led LCC with 44 assists in the match.

“I think Anna, our setter, she did a great job of starting to distribute her ball a little better,” Quintero said. “And Chyanna (Caster) did a good job of executing at the net.”

Freshman Audrey Bunnell commented on the match.

“I think it was definitely progress,” Bunnell said. “We really had the energy at the end that we have been lacking the past few games, so I’m really looking forward to where we can take that.”

The Stars are scheduled to play at Kellogg Community College on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
