At the end of February, long-time LCC Police Chief Bill French retired after 40 years with the college.
The college is currently working through the hiring process to find the next chief of police.
LCC Senior VP of Business Operations Dr. Seleana Samuel said not a whole lot has changed regarding the running of LCC Public Safety.
“Organizationally, the structure of LCC’s Public Safety Department remains much the same with the police officers reporting to Lieutenant Rod Bahl, and the cadets and dispatchers reporting to Dispatch Operations Manager Kristy Derosia,” Samuel said. “Until the new chief is on board, Bahl and Derosia will report directly to the executive director of Administrative Services.”
Samuel said she is unable to speak on the specific details of the current selection process, but confirmed it is underway.
“(The selection process is) consistent with the college’s commitment and adherence to equal opportunity and diversity, equity and inclusion in our hiring process,” Samuel said. “We anticipate selecting an excellent successor to Chief French in the near future.”
The announcement for the LCC Chief of Police position, including expected duties and requirements, can be accessed here.
“The job announcement that was posted on the MCOLES, Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, recruitment page … provides a very detailed overview of what the college is looking for in the new chief,” Samuel said.
According to Samuel, LCC hopes to have a new chief of police selected by the end of April.
