Fans of young adult fantasy novels are about to lose sleep with a new series from bestselling author Bella Forrest.

Recently announced as a pen-name which uses “ghostwriters” under one name, Bella Forrest has written about 13 book series since 2014.

One of these is the Harley Merlin series, of which the first book, “Harley Merlin and the Secret Coven,” was released in 2018.

Harley Merlin is a 19-year-old orphan who always knew she was different; she never knew just how different.

One day Harley stumbles into a fight with a monster and another person who has abilities just like her.

Now, Harley is thrust into a magical world and introduced to the San Diego Coven, where she learns how to master her abilities and joins a rag-tag group of friends.

Harley embarks on many adventures throughout the series. These include learning what happened to her parents, finding out she has a half-brother, and trying to stop her power-hungry aunt from taking over the magical and non-magical world.

After nine books, the series changes its focus to Harley’s brother, Finch Merlin.

Finch Merlin, after making a deal in order to save the world from his mother, is now in servitude to an immortal god-like being called a Child of Chaos.

Finch goes on crazy and dangerous missions for some unknown plan that the Child of Chaos has created. Finch has to figure out what the Child of Chaos has planned without getting killed. Finch enlists the help of old friends, his sister Harley and new friends.

Finch’s adventure continue for eight books before the series seems to come to an end.

However, the Merlin adventures don’t stop with Finch. The series continues with Harley’s daughter Persie.

Persephone, (or Persie for short) the magicless daughter of the famous Harley Merlin, gets the surprise of her life on her 18th birthday when she purges a huge monster.

Purges are what happens after a magical uses a large amount of magical energy, called Chaos. Persie is not a magical and is confused as to how she purged. Her mother reveals that she made a deal with the legendary creature, the Leviathan, in order to help save the world. In return he named Harley’s first born, Persephone.

The Leviathan gave her more than just her name. He also gave her the ability to purge chaos creatures, called purge beasts.

Persie decides to go out on her own to figure out who she is and how to control this new gift.

Being an avid book reader, I came across this series by accident and it turned into my new obsession. This series is the perfect combination of fantasy, action, romance and comedy. I recommend this book series to anyone who likes young adult fantasy.

Sadly, due to publishing issues, all book releases have been put on hold and Persie’s story is temporarily left unfinished.

The Harley Merlin series is available for purchase on Amazon in Kindle, audible and paperback formats.
