Due to the pandemic, large gatherings and most in-person meetings have been put on hold until further notice. This includes meeting for face-to-face classes.
As a way to come together during trying times, the LCC Music Department is holding a virtual choir event during finals week in December.
“It’s a great opportunity for community and positivity,” Music Program Faculty Chair Dr. Jonathan Ten Brink said. “This has been an incredibly trying year for so many, and for so many reasons. Coming together as a college to acknowledge that, and (to) stand together and say ‘we’re working together to make it better’ is so important. This is just one fun way to do that.”
Up to 40 LCC faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to lend their voices in singing the song “We Shall Overcome,” as a sign of unity, determination and hope.
Participants will need to submit a video of them singing their voice part and upload it to the folder sent to them. The name of the uploaded file should be the participant’s name. The video submissions will them be combined into one video performance that will be released during finals week.
“Sure, we all hate hearing our own voices, but you’ll be joining with others and won’t stand out, I promise,” Ten Brink said.
Those interested in taking part in this virtual choir event can contact Ten Brink at firstname.lastname@example.org for specific information and materials.
Participants will be sent sheet music for “We Will Overcome,” a karaoke style video for them to sing along with and learn whatever voice part they choose, and a link to a website with directions and requirements for recording the video of them singing.
Video submissions should be uploaded by Monday, Nov. 16 to https://lansingcc-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/edwardr_star_lcc_edu/Eix3aeRvuXFMtlrX78Mf6soB-9eJaWo1yOOQdlkP1fStuA?e=X6OgTz.
The “We Shall Overcome” virtual choir event will made available on the LCC Performing Arts Facebook Page.
