Diversity celebration to honor students

The Cesar Chavez Learning Center is sponsoring The LCC Multicultural Achievement Celebration, under the division of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, to recognize a group of graduating students for their accomplishments at LCC.
The online celebration is scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m. This is the first year it is being held, but the committee plans to make it an annual part of the spring semester.
“(The celebration) is designed to recognize the accomplishments of students of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students, and first-generation students who are actively involved on and off campus,” said Alex Gradilla, LCC’s coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion.
“The ceremony honors students who are preparing to graduate after enriching our campus community through affinity group work, community involvement and work, and social justice and diversity efforts.”
To participate, students must provide their names, a picture, and their major or area of study. They also need to state whether they are members of any registered student organizations, and list any awards, scholarships or accomplishments achieved during their time at LCC.
“Students will be given an opportunity to say a few words to thank their families and friends,” Gradilla said.
The ceremony is being held via Webex, and will be live-streamed on YouTube premium.
“We will provide the participating students the Webex link to join and a YouTube link to share with family and friends to view the celebration,” Gradilla said.
