LCC students may not realize they can take advantage of student rates for Lansing Lugnuts games at Cooley Law School Stadium.

By showing their Star Card, LCC students can attend any Lugnuts’ home game for just $5. Normal ticket prices range from $8 for law seats to $13 for box seats at the ticket window on game days.

“This is the second year that we’ve done (student tickets); we started it in the 2017 season,” Lugnuts President Nick Grueser said. “We’ve had a lot of success with it. We’ve had more feedback from students this year that it’s doing really well.”

Grueser said the student rate is for anyone attending college anywhere, not just LCC.

“If you’re currently enrolled in any college in the state, or even the country, it applies to you,” he said. “So all we ask for is a valid college ID from whatever school you represent and it is a $5 ticket. It applies for either a box, bleacher or lawn seat, whichever you prefer.”

Grueser said seating for students is based upon availability. If box seats are sold out, for example, only bleacher and lawn seats would be available.

Student tickets are currently only available in person at the stadium box office at 505 E. Michigan Ave. However Lugnuts officials are working on a procedure that would allow students to buy tickets online, then show their ID when they pick up their tickets at the “will call” box office.

Grueser said the student ticket prices have been well received.

“We felt it was worth giving it a shot, and it’s certainly making a difference,” he said. “We’ve seen our college student attendance increase quite a bit over the last two years, so we feel it’s headed in the right direction.”

Lugnuts fan Edmund Peterson, 26, is a former LCC student. He said he college students should certainly appreciate the $5 college tickets.

“I think it’s a pretty good idea,” Peterson said. “You struggle in college because of books and financing. It’s like free money. The rate is not bad at all.”

Andy Petersmark, 22, is a former Lugnuts’ employee and a recent Adrian College graduate. He said the student ticket price is great.

“I think it’s cool; It brings out a ton of people,” Petersmark said. “Seeing how many more students are here, it definitely brings more people into the ballpark, that’s for sure.

“(Five dollars) is a steal. It’s a good deal. And once they’re inside they’re buying more things, too, so it kind of helps out everybody.”

Petersmark’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Adrian College student Mariah Kramer, agreed.

“It’s nice seeing all the college kids here,” she said. “I think the discount definitely does help.”

The Lugnuts’ next home games are the weekend of June 14, 15 and 16 vs. South Bend. For team standings, game times and a complete schedule, go to
