Clayton Christensen and Henry Eyring, The Innovative University: Changing the DNA of Higher Education from the Inside Out. Very lengthy book discussing the need and ideas for how higher education can adopt new strategies and innovation. First half of the book provides a good history of primarily Harvard and Ricks College. Much of what the book suggests for innovation in higher education is commonplace at community colleges such as LCC, but in the process it explains how many features of modern higher education (tenure, departments, majors, core curriculum, honors, etc) came to be and the costs of such efforts. This book has the attention of many thought leaders (regulators, politicians, and foundation leaders).
