Staff Editorial: Bet on sports wisely
From The Lookout Staff
An influx in sports betting commercials have recently taken over television after it was legalized in Michigan in late 2019. Michiganders were allowed to begin placing in-person bets in March 2020.
Online sports betting in the state began on Friday, Jan. 22. Sportsbooks, including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and BetRivers were among the first to participate.
The Lookout staff thinks there is a considerable amount of money to be made in sports betting and that, when done responsibly, it can be an exhilarating hobby.
Barstool Sports opened a sportsbook location in the Greektown casino and hotel in Detroit in January. There, people can go and watch games on a 30-foot video wall while lounging in a leather chair.
Sportsbook guests can also enjoy an assortment of food and drink items while watching a game. The menu includes wings, steak, fish, salads, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, desserts, beer, wine, hard seltzer, cider and signature cocktails.
It can be fun to bet on the score of the Super Bowl or the outcome of a March Madness Basketball Tournament game, but The Lookout staff wants to remind our readers to do so in moderation. It is not worth losing your house, first-born’s college tuition, or retirement fund with excessive betting.
