LCC Student Engagement Coordinators are holding weekly Facebook sessions to provide information about the college to students, staff and faculty.

The “SEC Weekly” sessions are held Wednesdays starting at 6 p.m. As of right now, the sessions will run through the end of October.

“What we’re trying to do is leverage social media to get an impact, and reach out there to current students, prospective students, as well as community members, faculty and staff,” Student Engagement Coordinator Michael McGinnis said.

“What we have been doing is using the Facebook live event and highlighting some things around the college each week.”

A number of LCC programs, organizations and people have been featured, including President Dr. Steve Robinson, alumni, Health and Human Services, Learning Commons tutors, success coaches and Technical Careers.

“We’re really just trying to use them as a platform to showcase programs and parts of campus that people may or may not even be familiar with,” McGinnis said.

McGinnis said LCC community members should take advantage of the sessions because they are very informative.

“We have had some really good guests who really dig deep into services that they provide for students,” McGinnis said. “It allows people to ask us any questions they might have, as well as request more information.”

Student Engagement Coordinator Amanda Cho advised students who are thinking about taking courses, or coming back to college, to research their options, and to use the SEC Weekly sessions as a tool to do so.

“From our perspective, we want (them) to come to LCC,” Cho said. “We want to make sure this is the right fit for them, because we understand completely when you’re not passionate about something (or) when you don’t feel you’re in the right place.

“Though we can rave on and on and on about LCC, we understand sometimes college isn’t for everyone. Sometimes it’s the culture; the fit. We want them to get that information, get an overall cultural feel for us and what we have to offer.”

The sessions can be accessed through LCC’s Facebook page under the “Events” tab at www.facebook.com/lccstars/events/

The sessions are later posted to LCC’s Instagram and YouTube pages, for additional viewers.

Any club, organization, faculty member, alumnus, etc. interested in sharing information during the sessions can contact Michael McGinnis at mcginnm3@star.lcc.edu.
