The host of LCC Radio’s “Lansing Loud & Local” has decided to go virtual and host her show on Instagram Live.

Sarah Spohn has been the host of her show since 2017 and goes on air every Wednesday night from 8 to 9 p.m. on WLNZ Radio 89.7 FM.

LCC Radio has been at LCC since 1997. Spohn said before that, it was a small-powered station that could pretty much only be heard on campus – not throughout the surrounding area.

“LCC Radio has been online for listeners to stream for a few years, but my show personally, ‘Lansing Loud & Local,’ has only gone to the virtual Instagram Live airwaves for the past month,” Spohn said. “My first Instagram Live show was Wednesday, March 16, with singer-songwriter Alex Teller.”

Spohn chats with her guests over Instagram Live for a few reasons. She said there are benefits with Instagram Live because she can speak with guests virtually, with video and sound. Musicians can play their music as well.

“They’re able to talk about their music, and even play songs live,” Spohn said. “The one benefit I’ve really enjoyed from the shift from the in-studio to online has been the ability to book guests from all over the country.”

This transition has provided Spohn with more opportunities. She said artists can now call in from the comfort of their home and perform live.

Daedalian Lowry is the general manager of Broadcast Services. Lowry started working at LCC Radio as a student employee in 2000. In 2012, he returned as the general manager.

“LCC Radio is different from a commercial radio station in that we have around 30 volunteers … who contribute to daily on-air programming (with) many creating their own shows,” Lowry said. “Given the current situation, it isn’t possible for the volunteers to come into the station. Therefore, since March 18, we’ve been running our daytime AAA (Adult Album Alternative) format on a 24-7 basis.”

“Lansing Loud & Local” is still booking guests through May, so interested artists are encouraged to reach out on LCC Radio’s Instagram page, @lccradio.

LCC Radio is still broadcasting from the 89.7 FM airwaves on the radio or the online stream at https://www.lcc.edu/radio/.
