Cooley Stadium lights up for holidays
During the month of December, Cooley Law School Stadium opens its doors for something other than baseball.
The “Holiday Lights Stadium Style” exhibit take place each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until Christmas. The show features a 360-degree light display and many inflatable decorations around the park.
Admission is $5 per person, but children 6 years and younger get in for free.
Malinda Barr, director of special events for the Lansing Lugnuts, said this is the second year for the event. She said the organization purchased the lights display from Shawhaven Farms of Mason last year.
“We installed it for the first time last year,” she said. “The Lansing Lugnuts own the light installation, so our staff sets (the lights) up.”
A number of family-friendly and holiday-related activities are available to attendees. These include photos with and letters to Santa, holiday movie trivia, train rides, a warming station with a fire pit, crafts, food and drinks.
Before guests enter the gate, they are given an envelope with their ticket. Inside is a sheet for holiday movie trivia and an in-stadium scavenger hunt.
The Lansing Lugnuts have three partners for this event, and are accepting donations for Toys for Tots this year.
“We have Sup Dog Michigan, who is the food truck … Sparrow has sponsored the train for Sparrow Express, and WILX is our Media Partner,” Barr said.
“It’s a great community space to come down and enjoy. It’s one more opportunity for us to use the stadium in a different way than just baseball, which we strive to do; bring different unique events to the stadium and to downtown Lansing.”
Tickets can be purchased online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, or at the box office upon arrival.
