As the summer season comes to a wrap, so does the summer internship for LCC fashion and design students.

The internship ends with a concert and fashion show this Saturday, Aug. 18 at The Loft on Michigan Avenue in Lansing. The event features the pop rock artist Heidi Rickard.

The all-ages event is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome.

“The fashion program requires student internships,” said Anne Wojtkowski, LCC Communication, Media, and Arts Department professor. “The creation of a music video, and styling of the video, and working with that team was their internship for the summer.”

The collaboration between Rickard and Wojtkowski took place after a conversation with mutual friend and Marketing Manager Alexis Rosado.

“Heidi was just like, ‘I’d like some attire made and, instead of hiring anybody or instead of paying, I’d like to work with students.’” Rosado said. “So we worked with Anne Wojo (Wojtkowski). She gave her students a budget to work with. They made all her designs during the internship.”

The LCC students who participated in the internship were Aaron Parker, Morgan Douglas and Leslie Dudley Wilson.

Wojtkowski said as an LCC professor, she and her students have participated in many community partnerships, but have never facilitated an artist like this before.

“They created her attire, they did her make-up for her video shoot, and in addition, they even brought props to design the videos,” Rosado said. “The videos will be released leading up to this event. But at the event, the entire video will be shown.”

“So all of LCC’s students’ work is going to be shown because it will all be in the video. Secondly, LCC’s students will be styling Heidi and whatever she’s wearing on the day of the show.”

Rickard’s “Lost In The Woods” album release will also feature local guests Alex Mendenall and MikeyyAustin, who will open the show.

“The students have been working really hard trying to get The Loft to look enchanting,” Wojtkowski said.  “We’ll be creating a very different and unique atmosphere from what you would normally think of when you go into the club.”

Rosado encouraged everyone to attend the event and see that work LCC students put into the show. For more information on Rickard and her new album, go to
