AMA to bring laughter for a cause
Students are invited to enjoy a night of comedy to benefit Helping Hands and Hearts of Michigan Feb. 15 at the Green Door Lounge, 2005 E. Michigan Ave.
LCC’s American Marketing Association welcomes students 18 and up to help support the community, the college and local comedians all in one night. Cost is $10 a ticket.
The event will feature local comedians Dan Currie, Pat Sievert, Tricia Chamberlain and others.
Local country musician Joe Wright will take the stage at 5 p.m. and comedy will follow at 6 p.m.
AMA Chapter President Nicholas Montry said the idea of the event came when Connxtions Comedy Club on US-127 shut its doors last year.
“We wanted to give local comedians a chance to perform for a cause rather than an open mic type of thing,” Montry said.
Helping Hands and Hearts of Michigan is a non-profit human care organization that sets out to help families in need.
Montry serves on the Board of Directors for HHHOM. He said its services affect students at LCC every day.
“The goal of the event is to create as much funds as possible and bring the community together,” Montry said. “It gives students a chance to learn more about how important non-profits are, especially for Lansing.”
Montry said hosting a comedy show has a different feel than most benefits, and he is happy to be involved. He encouraged everyone to come and support the HHHOM.
“It builds character,” Montry said. “Giving back for younger students is not a priority and it should be, even if it’s just a little,” Montry said.
Sievert said he is happy to participate in this event.
“I am excited to be performing for a big crowd,” Sievert said. “It’s cool when something I do like this raises money for a good cause,” Sievert said.
